Awards and Scholarships
Applications for the following awards and scholarships are now being
accepted. Descriptions of the awards and scholarships are listed below.

SCCTE Coleman Undergraduate Scholarship
Purpose: SCCTE wishes to recognize and celebrate
outstanding undergraduate students majoring in some aspect of the
teaching of English Language Arts.
Who Can Participate: All undergraduate students majoring in some
aspect of the teaching of ELA.
Number of Awards: One individual will be selected and recognized.
Award Specifics: Each recipient will be recognized at the SCCTE annual
convention in January, will receive a certificate, and $1000.
Award Criteria: Each entrant will be nominated by an individual or
group of individuals and complete the Nomination Form.
Honoree Supporting Data: The nominating individual or group is
responsible for submitting the honoree’s resume, transcripts, and
letters of support from at least TWO different constituencies –
professor, administrator, supervisor, chairperson, peer, parent or
student – about dedication to the teaching profession and excellent
scholarship in and out of the classroom associated with ELA exhibited
by the recipient. These items, including the Award Information Form,
will be forwarded to the award administrator for this honor.
Deadline: Documentation should be sent to award
administrator by October 1.
Best
Use of Conference Theme Award
Purpose: SCCTE wishes to recognize
and
celebrate classroom teachers whose attitudes and strategies demonstrate
the theme of this year’s annual convention in their classroom.
Who Can Participate: All classroom teachers who are SCCTE members.
Number of Awards: Five individuals will be selected and
recognized.
Award Specifics: Each recipient will be recognized at the SCCTE
annual convention in January and will receive a certificate.
Award Criteria: Each entrant will be nominated by an individual or
group of individuals and complete the Nomination Form.
Honoree Supporting Data: The nominating individual or group is
responsible for submitting the honoree’s resume and letters of support
from at least TWO different constituencies – administrator, supervisor,
chairperson, peer, parent or student – about contributions in the
classroom and excellent practices exhibited by the recipient. These
items, including the Award Information Form, will be forwarded to the
award administrator for this honor.
Deadline: Documentation should be sent to the award administrator
by November 1 of each year. Materials should be sent to the address on
the current nomination form.
SCCTE
New Member Award
Purpose: SCCTE wishes to recognize
and celebrate outstanding new members of the organization.
Who Can Participate: All member of SCCTE and NCTE who have been
members and teachers no more than 5 years.
Number of Awards: One individual will be selected and recognized.
Award Specifics: Each recipient will be recognized at the SCCTE
annual convention in January and will receive a certificate and $500
toward attendance at NCTE annual convention in November of the
following year.
Award Criteria: Each entrant will be nominated by an individual or
group of individuals and complete the Nomination Form.
Honoree Supporting Data: The nominating individual or group is
responsible for submitting the honoree’s resume, transcripts, and
letters of support from at least TWO different constituencies –
professor, administrator, supervisor, chairperson, peer, parent or
student – about dedication to the teaching profession and excellent
scholarship in and out of the classroom associated with ELA exhibited

SCCTE Award for English/Language Arts
Purpose: SCCTE wishes to recognize
and celebrate individuals who display outstanding service to our
profession.
Who Can Participate: All classroom teachers of ELA who are SCCTE
members.
Number of Awards: One individual from the state will be selected
and recognized.
Award Specifics: Each recipient will be recognized at the SCCTE
annual convention in January and will receive a certificate and plaque.
Award Criteria: Each entrant will be nominated by an individual or
group of individuals and complete the nomination information below.
Honoree Supporting Data: The nominating individual or group is
responsible for submitting the honoree’s resume and letters of support
from at least TWO different constituencies – supervisor, chairperson,
teacher, peer, parent or student – about contributions in the classroom
and excellent practices exhibited by the recipient. These items,
including the Award Information Form, will be forwarded to the award
administrator for this honor.

SCCTE
Affiliate Recognition
Purpose:
SCCTE wishes to recognize and celebrate local affiliates that provide
outstanding service to their profession.
Who Can Participate: All
local active SCCTE affiliates.
Award Specifics: Each
recipient will be recognized at the SCCTE annual convention in January
and will receive a certificate and plaque.
Award Criteria: Each
affiliate will supply the information listed on the information sheet.
Deadline: Documentation
should be sent to the award administrator by October 1 of each year.
Materials should be sent to the address on the current nomination form.
SCCTE
Outstanding Administrator’s Award
Purpose:
SCCTE wishes to recognize and celebrate administrators who provide
outstanding encouragement in support of English Language Arts programs
in the district or school.
Who Can Participate: All
administrators serving classroom teachers for are SCCTE members.
Number of Awards:
Annually, one individual from the state will be selected and
recognized.
Award Specifics: Each
recipient will be recognized at the SCCTE annual convention in January
and will receive a certificate and plaque.
Award Criteria: Each
entrant will be nominated by an individual or group of individuals and
complete the Nomination Form.
Honoree Supporting Data:

Secondary Section High School Teacher of Excellence
Purpose: The Secondary Section of
SCCTE
wishes to recognize and celebrate high school classroom teachers.
SCCTE’s selection will be entered into the NCTE’s Secondary Section
Teacher of Excellence award program.
Who Can Participate: All high school English teachers who are
members of SCCTE and NCTE.
Number of Awards: Annually, one individual from the state will be
selected and entered into the NCTE’s Secondary Section Teacher of
Excellence award program.
Award Specifics: Each recipient will be recognized at the SCCTE
annual convention in January and will receive a certificate and plaque
from SCCTE.
Award Criteria: Each entrant will be nominated by an individual or
group of individuals and complete the Nomination Form.
Honoree Supporting Data: The nominating individual or group is
responsible for submitting the honoree’s resume and letters of support
from at least TWO different constituencies – principal, supervisor,
chairperson, peer, parent or student – about contributions in the
classroom and excellent practices exhibited by the recipient. These

Acknowledgement: Awardees will receive a form to submit to their
